Volunteers-Meet Our Team!

I have always had a love of animals and started helping animals at a young age. My love for horses grew over time and I always wanted my own. In 2009, I came across a horse named Dolly that had been mistreated and abused. It was then that I realized that the Wiregrass area did not have a place for abused and neglected horses. In 2013 I, along with amazing supporters, opened Wiregrass Horse Rescue & Sanctuary.

Devon began volunteering with us in February 2025 and recently adopted Anastasia, one of our rescues. In 2014, she became a PATH-certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and an Equine Specialist in Mental Health.
Since 2015, Devon has partnered with licensed therapists and her horse, Dezano, to provide equine-assisted therapy to veterans. She recently founded Pine Pastures LLC to expand this work in the Wiregrass area —with Anastasia now part of the herd. Today, Pine Pastures stands as a living tribute to First Responders, veterans, and their families - a place to heal, reconnect, and rediscover purpose through the healing power of horses.

I am an educator and mom who loves reading, yoga, camping, and the great outdoors. I have had a fascination and love of horses since I was a little girl, so working at the rescue has given me the opportunity to help, care, and learn more about these beautiful creatures.

Every since I was 7 years old and got ahold of the Phantom Stallion series by Terry Farley I've dreamed of having a closer relationship with horses that includes more than just sitting in a saddle.

I grew up with horses and have loved them for as long as I can remember. When I moved to the Wiregrass area, I was thrilled to discover an outlet that allows me to connect with and care for horses in need. When I am not volunteering, I love to spend time with my husband, dog, and two cats.

My wife and I moved here back in November 2024 and so far we really like it, I love Motorcycles, the beach, and music, I’ve had a love for horses every since I was young and hate to see any animal being abused, Working at the rescue and being allowed to help these horses is a dream come true

Hi! I am a certified theater geek and homeschool mom. I tend to keep busy volunteering in all capacities with SEACT, and taking on DIY projects that are usually way out of my skill set but we all have to learn somehow! I am so excited to be volunteering with WHR&S, as horses hold a special place in my heart!

I've been volunteering at Wiregrass Horse Sanctuary for a year now, and it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I’ve always loved animals, and being able to help care for these incredible horses has deepened that love even more. Every visit brings something new—whether it’s a quiet moment brushing a horse or lending a hand around the sanctuary. I’m grateful to be part of a place that gives these animals the care and second chance they deserve.

My name is Jessica and I’m a 38 year old mom of 2 teenagers. I’m a full time account Manager, but in my spare time my heart longs for animals ! Especially ones that need extra love and attention like the horses at the Wiregrass Horse Rescue and Sanctuary!

When I was a child, my family had show horses. Being too young to show a horse, my experience with them was limited. As an adult, I sought out a connection with them. Bonding with a horse makes all of my pain fade away. The horses at the Wiregrass Horse Rescue and Sanctuary need me and I need them. Having a film background, I have decided to pursue a career as a horse videographer.

My name is Catherine, I have been volunteering with Wiregrass Horse Rescue & Sanctuary for 5 years now. I wanted to volunteer because I saw this rescue on WTVY news one day, they needed hay for a new group of horses they had to rescue, so my family and I decided to donate hay and we've been volunteering ever since. I have a husband, 5 children, 4 horses, 3 dogs and 5 cats. Our 2 youngest boys have grown up around the horse rescue, and it has been such a joy to be able to volunteer together as a family.

I’m a lifelong horse girl, grew up in the Wiregrass and recently moved back. I had horses as a kid, rode competitively in college and have always volunteered with therapeutic horseback riding. I work in digital marketing and occupational therapy, so I love this chance to get outside and help care for these very special horses.

We started volunteering in in May of 2025. It was Trinity’s love of horses that brought us to Wiregrass Horse Rescue & Sanctuary.
I am a wife to an amazing guy and a mother to two wonderful kids as well as a Certified Surgical Technologist and I own a small business (a hobby of mine) making surgical caps for people of the ORs.
In my free time I love to volunteer my time to those in need and coming out to the rescue to remind the horses they aren’t alone and there are people who care. I also am a personal taxi for Trinity and her many hobbies!
Trinity is a kind and compassionate child who has a big heart to serve.
She has always had a love for horse and really wants one of her own 😂.
In her free time she enjoys volunteering at WHR&S, pageants, hanging with friends and dancing for Alabama Dance Works.
She is also the proud founder of Helping Hooves which is her platform to help give back to horses in need and the volunteers that give their time to help.

We are so excited to be part of the Wiregrass Horse Rescue & Sanctuary community ❤️

Trish

I have volunteered at the Wiregrass Horse Rescue and sanctuary since February 2024.

I had no prior experience with horses,  just an interest and desire to try something new. The other volunteers, and the horses, were patient with me.

Since becoming a volunteer, the horses have helped me become more assertive and taught me about trust, patience, and compassion. This has helped me in my personal and professional life.

Being a volunteer is one of those things where you ask yourself, who’s helping who?

I joined WGHR&S as a volunteer in March 2025. My love of horses began as a toddler and has always been a passion of mine. There is something of a spiritual connection and healing that they offer. Recently retired, I had a long career in nursing and spent the last 10 years as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I’m a proud mom and grandmother and enjoy spending more time with my family, as well as the opportunity to serve these special horses. Caring for them feeds my soul.

I have just moved back to the area and recently retired. I have always had horses until about 6 years ago, and I love all kinds of animals. I spent six years as an Animal Cruelty Investigator in Tallahassee, FL, and now that I have time to volunteer, here I am!

I joined WHR&S IN 2025 and I am currently a student at Ft. Rucker. I started volunteering to gain some hands on experience caring for horses and because I have a love for animals.
